2019 Clemens Busch Vom Roten Schiefer Riesling - Mosel Germany, 750ml.
A blend of two vineyards, the neighbouring Marienburg and Nonnengarden, both dominated by the Mosel’s red slate. The first wine focussing on red slate came from 2003. Organic certified farming for Clemens Busch, and a long time at it. Also regarded as one of the great ‘natural wine’ producers of Germany, without ever having thought about that he fit into that umbrella category. Just is what it is, for Clemens.
Power and delicacy hand in hand. The suggestion that you can achieve concentration of flavour but have it feel lacy, brisk and compact in weight and texture. Beautiful perfume heralds this stunning wine – floral notes, green apple, lime juice, grapefruits, talc. The palate is citrus spectrum, oil, zest, juice, a spread of green herbs, with a bustle of mineral-esque feel running riot from sip to finish. Yowsers.
