2021 Chanterêves Savigny-lès-Beaune 'Dessus de Montchenevoy' - Burgundy FRANCE 750ml
Very limited. Le Dessus de Montchenevoy is located above the famed Savigny 1er Cru Aux Guettes. It’s a west-facing site on white soils that sits at an altitude of 350 metres and is surrounded by trees. The altitude and cool air from the forest help moderate the climate here, resulting in slow ripening and flavour development, while the white, bony soils provide raciness and saline minerality. The plot is now organically farmed and ploughed by draft horse. Jasper Morris has described previous releases as enthralling, juicy and lifted; you can expect more of the same from the 2021. We have very little. “Nine barrels from 0.70ha is an acceptable yield of nearly 30 hl/ha. Pale pink purple. A joyous nose with a floral fresh red fruit touch. Really a most beautiful nose in its whole bunch style. The palate offers suavity and persistence, yet still with tension and precision.” 89-91 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy “A wine for current drinking, this is balanced, elegant, and appealing. The deceptively light ruby colour gives not hint of the profusion of cherry and floral notes on the nose. The texture on the palate is supple and refined, yet there are some grippy, almost astringent tannins that should smooth out with time. It is produced from the domaine parcel of 70 acres of Pinot at this site above premier cru Les Guettes that did not freeze.” 93 points, Charles Curtis MW, Decanter
