The Richoux family have been growing grapes in the picturesque village of Irancy since 1610. Tenth generation Thierry farms 20 hectares of kimmeridgian-centric vines that create a patchwork across the appellation. His reputation as a devoted and gifted vigneron is articulated by the fact that he farms all of Dauvissat’s Irancy vines.
Long élévage is common practice as Richoux believes it helps to to harmonize the wines while maintaining the purity and transparency of this unique terroir. The regular Irancy and the single vineyard wines all spend their first year in tank, and then a full second year in large foudres.
The wines are certainly ‘northerly’ in spirit, leading with minerals and earth and followed by fruit and spice. The are lovely and fresh, but with the structure to age gracefully. Organically farmed.
