2020 Sylvain Cathiard 'Malconsorts' 1er cru - Vosne-Romanee, BURGUNDY, FRANCE. 750ml
From 0.74 ha of vines planted early 1970’s located close to Grand Cru La Tache, aged in 2/3rds new oak, 1/3rd 1 yo oak. A wine of rare breed and depth of Grand cru quality and dimension.
”(from a .74 ha parcel of 35+ year old vines). A markedly more restrained nose only reluctantly displays its array of much more floral scented red currant, cherry and anise whiffs. Somewhat surprisingly, the larger-scaled flavors are not quite as dense but even so they are more powerful, muscular and minerality while the overtly firm supporting structure really becomes apparent on the dusty, youthfully austere and explosively long finish. As is usually the case at this stage, the Cathiard Malconsorts is largely a block of potential so plenty of patience will be required but it should ultimately be brilliant.
